6 Installing Additional Software

Now that we have added additional repositories, a lot more packages are available in our package manager for installation, especially a big deal of our needed packages. To install them, go to Computer > Install Software:

Type in the root password:

The YaST Package Selector comes up:

You can use the Search field to search for specific packages. To mark a package for installation, select it in the left window and then click on the Install > button to push it to the right window.

Select the following packages for installation (* is a wildcard; e.g. xmms* means all packages that start with xmms) and click on Accept afterwards:

Confirm your selection by clicking on Confirm:

It's possible that a few packages are conflicting with others. You can resolve the problems as shown below (make sure you install xine-lib; don't install libxine1 if necessary):

The packages are now being downloaded from the repositories and installed (you also might have to insert your OpenSUSE 10.3 DVD). This can take a few minutes, so please be patient:

After the installation, YaST asks you if you'd like to install more packages. Choose No and leave YaST:
